    This group focuses on the following areas of competencies:


    • Claims staff should know the key information needed to notify claims for own area of business and initiate the claims handling process.
    • Claims staff should know the claimant’s rights to fair treatment and be able to advise on their duties when making claims.
    • They should understand the goals of, and apply organizational procedures and processes in relation to customer service, reserving and information management.
    • They should know the risks of claimant’s moral hazard and the risks of fraud.
    • Claims handlers should be able to identify when loss adjusters and other experts should be appointed and the service level standards to expect from them.
    • Claims adjusters should be able to apply policy, coverage, terms and conditions and how to adjust the amount to settle.
    • Claims staff should know the process and procedure for recovery of claim payments where possible.
