Ms. Pauline Azzopardi

BSc., ACII., Cert FS, CeFA.

Ms. Azzopardi’s career spans twenty two years activity in the Financial Services Industry. She has occupied several positions in the industry starting in 1998 as an associate with Allied Dunbar UK, specialising in commercial lending, investment advice on U.K. and offshore bonds, unit trusts and mixed portfolios, mortgage arrangements with U.K. and international banks and building societies, pension advice and personal financial planning.

In 1989 she moved to Hill Samuel Investment Services Limited, London as a senior advisor until she moved to Malta in 1991 to join the Middle Sea Valletta Life Assurance (a new joint venture between Middle Sea Insurance Company, Munich re, and Bank of Valletta) as Marketing and Sales Manager. In this position she was responsible for building the sales representative network including recruitment, training and mentoring of sales reps and brokers, developing marketing strategies and complaints handling. In 1998 she joined the then Mid Med life Assurance co, a bancassurance operation owned by the largest bank in the country as Senior Manager Sales and Marketing.

In 2000, when the company was taken over by HSBC group, she joined HSBC Bank (Malta) p.l.c, as Product Manager for Life Assurance, Wealth Management, Global Banking and Markets, where she is also currently in full time employment. Her responsibilities included the design of new products and enhancement of existing ones, feedback from the financial planning officers and customers and promotion of wealth management products. In 2013 Pauline became investment manager with MFI Munich Finance and Investment Ltd, a subsidiary of Munich Re.

Ms. Azzopardi has been lecturing on financial services, Life Assurance and Pensions with the Malta International Training Centre since 1995 and at the Malta Institute of Management since 2002. She is the current lecturer in the Diploma for Financial Advisers (“DipFA”) at the Institute for Financial Services in Malta, affiliated to the IFS School,of Finance, UK.

Throughout her career Pauline has trained and lectured extensively in Life Assurance, Wealth Management and Financial Services. In 2002, she took up a consultancy in Mumbai, India, to set up all training courses for the life assurance sales force of Bajaj Allianz Insurance Company, an associated company of Allianz and the largest private life company in India. In 2003 she acted as consultant to First National Insurance Company of Oman, the first and largest Certified Omani Life assurance company in the Sultanate of Oman designing training courses and delivering lectures to the new and existing sales force, and unit managers. In 2013 she delivered the CII examinations for the CII’s Award in Financial Planning, the Award in Investment Planning and a customer relationship workshop to a group of graduates in Bahrain at GII being prepared for a career in Financial Planning Advice.

Ms Azzopardi is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a BSc. Degree holder (combined honours in chemistry and biology) from the University of Malta. In 1996, she won the Institute of London award for the best candidate worldwide in two separate exam sittings of the subject “ Life Assurance Practice and Life Assurance Administration”. She also completed all the examinations for Diploma in Life and Disability Underwriting, Medical Society, U.K.

Throughout her career, she attended many continued professional development courses in Risk Analysis (University of Malta); Management, Sales and Marketing, Tax and Unit Trusts, Investments (Fidelity International, Kent, U.K); Life Insurance Management (Munich Re, Germany); Advanced Investment and Offshore (Hill Samuel Training School, UK); Commercial Lending, Life Products Courses, Residential Mortgage Course, Group Company Pensions and Personal Pensions (Allied Dunbar Training School, UK); and London Stock Exchange Course (South West London College).
