Peter Spiteri

Mr. Peter Spiteri, is a senior reinsurance executive with over 30 years experience in the industry. He is currently executive head of the reinsurance department at Middlesea insurance p.l.c, part of the Mapfre insurance group. Over these 30 years he has worked in Malta, London and Italy in various roles within the insurance and reinsurance industry.

Throughout his career he has conducted and negotiated outward placement and inward reinsurance business globally with reinsurers such as Lloyd’s, ILU companies, Cologne Re, Munich Re, Hannover Re, Gerling Konzern, Swiss Re, Partner Re, Scor and Odyssey Re, Gen Re and Tunis Re among others.

Mr. Spiteri was also instrumental in setting up the bancassurance operation of HSBC Life in Malta where he was appointed as senior manager for life operations. He was also senior manager, reinsurance and aviation for Bain Hogg (Malta) Ltd.

Since the early stages of his career, Mr. Spiteri has been passionate about training and professional development and he has been actively lecturing around the world to a diverse audience for 23 uninterrupted years.

Besides his regular lecturing experience at the Malta International Training Centre where he has lectured to various audiences from a large number of countries, and the University of Malta where he lectures for the bachelors in insurance and finance degree, he has conducted several courses and workshops in reinsurance in Dubai, St Lucia, Kosovo, Ghana, and Rumania. Members of his audiences hailed from 71 different nations across the world. He also moderates distance learning courses in reinsurance for CII students from Eastern Europe and Africa.

Throughout his career he visited 43 countries exchanging knowledge and developing business with clients and reinsurers and regularly attending the global reinsurance rendez vous in Monte Carlo and Baden Baden.

Mr. Spiteri completed his Associateship with the Chartered Insurance Institute in 1985 continueing his education to become fellow of the CII. He attended a three months specialized course at Swiss Re’s SITC in 1992 and subsequently completed the Associateship of the Institute of Risk Management.

As part of his continued professional development (CPD) he has attended many seminars and workshops in reinsurance and life assurance covering such subjects as earthquake accumulation, captives, protecting corporate information and integrity, money laundering, medical Long term care.

Mr. Spiteri is a highly motivated trainer speaking English, French and Italian besides his native Maltese language and regularly receiving accolades and positive feedback from his audience.
