Mr. Silvan Said ACII, ARM. Chartered Insurance Practitioner, CII Accredited Advanced Insurance Trainer

Founder, Managing Director - RISC Institute

Silvan Said is a senior risk and insurance management executive having over forty years’ experience in the insurance industry. He has been actively involved in talent development for the insurance industry since 2002, consulting and delivering courses in the GCC, Malta, Eastern Europe and Africa.

Mr. Said is an Asscociate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) and a Chartered Insurance Practitioner. He is also an accredited Advanced General Insurance Trainer with the CII. He also holds the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation from the American Institutes for Casualty and Property Underwriters (The Institutes). Mr. Said is a recognized Course Leader by the Institutes for their designation courses.

Following twenty years experience as an underwriter and later, a broker, he moved into training and consultancy serving an international clientele and joined the Gulf Insurance Institute in 2007 becoming its first head of academy and later appointed as its first CEO in May 2009. As CEO Silvan led GII to become a recognized leader in the insurance training field in the GCC and wider Middle East. Under his leadership, the institute delivered over 7000 hours of training to more than 3,000 trainees across the region. His execution of the policy of the institute to emphasize on quality led to excellent quality assurance reviews, winning accolades from the Quality Assurance Authority of Bahrain for its excellence in training. During 2014 he developed and implemented the ISO 9001:2008 quality assurance certification for the institute. He was also responsible for obtaining and maintaining the accreditations for GII from partner organizations such as the Chartered Insurance Institute, LOMA and The Institutes and the CISI.

In March 2015, Mr, Said moved to the UAE where he founded RISC Institute DMCC. Under his leadership RISC quickly became a leading centre of talent development in the insurance industry winning the support of major corporate clients and insurance authorities and training hundreds of personnel working in the insurance industry in the region. RISC institute is proud to have been a catalyst for nearly 1,200 practitioners earning their internationally recognized qualifications through its preparation courses and examination facilitation. RISC Institute today reaches audiences from the GCC, Arab and African countries through extensive investment in e-learnning and its online courses.

Mr. Said conducts face to face workshops and online training for all levels of insurance industry professionals from governance, risk and compliance for senior executives and board directors, through to technical courses for all levels of personnel as well as induction and foundation courses for new joiners in the industry.

He has delivered many hours of technical competency training in a wide range of insurance and risk subjects including risk management, property insurance, liability, advanced motor underwriting, engineering and construction, marine, professional indemnity, life assurance and financial planning, insurance law, insurance business and finance, corporate governance, anti-money laundering and regulation. He has consistently won excellent feedback and enthusiasm for his sessions from particpants.

Throughout his career as a trainer Mr. Said has developed an extensive library of courseware which is delivered in face-to-face classes as well as through RISC's e-learning platform. He has also developed learning activities and resources to prepare over 1,200 candidates for various examinations fo qualifications from the CII, The Institutes, LOMA and the CISI.

Mr. Said has travelled widely delivering lectures and seminars in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, UAE, Sudan, Egypt, Iran, Kosovo, Istanbul and Malta. Over his nearly fifteen years experience in the GCC, Mr. Said has developed a deep understanding of the training and development needs of the insurance market in the GCC. He is an experienced public speaker and communicator with all levels of staff and executives, conducting training and workshops for audiences of diverse nationalities and from novices to board of directors of insurance companies. He has spoken at numerous conferences in the Middle East and published articles in leading regional insurance journals.

During the early years of his career he was deputy underwriter in the general business department of the Middlesea insurance company (today part of the Mapfre group). He later established a private insurance broking firm specializing in commercial business. He has experience with such diverse risks as large manufacturers, foundries, power utilities, shipyards, ship-owners, ferry operators, importers and exporters, offshore bunkering, crude oil washing, food chains, hotel chains, car hire fleets and others. He also developed and managed binding authorities at Lloyd’s in marine, general business, motor, personal accident and travel.
