As the introductory level of the ALMI and FLMI programs, LOMA's Level 1: Insurance Fundamentals Certificate provides basic foundational knowledge about insurance products and operations with particular focus on life and health insurance. These courses help employees quickly gain confidence, serve the customer effectively, and contribute to company success.

Who should pursue this qualification
  • The Level 1: Insurance Fundamentals Certificate is suitable for every employee, and is an ideal part of onboarding for employees who are new to the industry.
  • It is also a requirement for those already working and aim to achieve higher levels of LOMA qualifications (ALMI and FLMI).
  • It helps insurance staff employed in support functions such as human resources, marketing, IT and finance, to develop an understanding of the principles and oeprations of the industry in which they work
  • Job seekers and graduates can also improve their chances of being employed in the industry - one does not need to be employed in insurance to take this qualification.
How to compete the qualification

These foundational courses count as credit toward many of LOMA’s prestigious designation programs, including the Associate, Life Management Institute (ALMI), the Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI), and the Associate, Customer Service (ACS) Life Insurance track designations.

How much time you need to dedicate

This really depends on you and which learning method you choose. As a minimum we recommend that you set aside 100 hours over two to three months. If you take blended learning, of which 60 hours will be learning through our Live Virtual classes or 30 hours of Interactive video lessons if you choose self-paced.

You will also need time for practice quizzes, assignments and further learning resources and activities that we have prepared for you for private study

The important thing is to keep the pace. Make sure that you can dedicate at least 6 hours per week for lessons (2 X 3 hours each) and revision. Schedule the hours and stick with your timetable.

Choosing which method of learning is for you depends on whether you prefer weekly structured lessons with a tutor covering the whole syllabus or you want to set your own pace and have the determination to complete it without a fixed schedule and tutor interaction. Your choice also depends on your budget. When you commit your time and your money to earn this qualification its an investment in yourself.
