Mr. Simon Grech

MBA, FCIB, Chartered Banker, BSc. (Hons.) Financial Services

Simon Grech is Risk Management Executive Responsible for Enterprise, Credit and Operational Risk. Economic Research and Information Security at Bank of Valletta p.l.c, Malta.

Before moving to his current position in 2015 he occupied the position of Head of Corporate Services at Simon Grech is Head of Retail Banking at Banif Bank (Malta) p.l.c. where he was responsible for Marketing, Communication, Human Resources, Procurement, Administration, Security, Health and Safety. He was previously a Branch Manager and Corporate Relationship Manager for Bank of Valletta starting his career at this bank in 1986.

His extensive experience in training in Retail Financial Services spans over 12 years. He has conducted professional examination courses in Law Relating to Banking (Banking Certificate), Banking Operations (Banking Certificate), Lending and Security (Banking Diploma), Retail Banking for Supervisors, Certificate for Financial Advisers (IFS UK).

Mr. Grech served on various Bank Board Committees including ALCO, Products and Risk committees.

His interest and passion for education in financial services spans from 1998 when he started training and lecturing. He served as the Education Director of the Malta Branch of the Institute of Financial Services (UK) (2006 to 2012) and President of the Institute of Financial Services Malta (2012 to 2015). He also serves as an online tutor for IFS (UK) in Diploma for Financial Advisers.

Examples of his lecturing experience include Credit and Banking operations (IFS Malta) 1998 to date; UK Law and Regulation (IFS Malta) 1998 to 2002; Certificate for Financial Advisers (IFS UK) 2001 to 2015; Certificate in Wealth Management (CISI) (GII Bahrain 2010); Chartered Wealth Management Qualification (CISI) 2014 to date and other bespoke training.

Mr. Grech earned a BSc Honours degree in Financial Services at the University of Malta, is a Fellowship of Institute of Financial Services UK. He received his fellowship in recognition for achievements in career and in education of the industry.
